The Parent Support Group (PSG)
(PSG) is a volunteer based program at Al Furqan School. The PSG was founded in January 2002. The PSG provides support in the form of volunteer management to the school administration, as it strives to meet the needs of the Al Furqan School student body.
All volunteering efforts are for the sake of Allah (SWT) only. The school is run solely by volunteers who give their time in all capacities to the school. Your participation not only benefits your child by enhancing their school experience but also demonstrates your commitment to the importance of a good Islamic Education. Please consider volunteering with us!
Rules of Volunteer Commitment:
- A parent must volunteer 4 times a semester, 8 times in total entire school day for the 2009 – 2010 academic year.
- A parent must volunteer for the entire school day, assisting during Recess Break and during Lunch Break. Note: A parent volunteer should arrive 10 minutes prior to break times; however they must be present during both breaks. During the10 minutes period a Volunteer Lead will assign duty to a designated area.
- A parent volunteer must sign in for both break times, Recess and Lunch.
- A parent volunteer must provide a valid email address that they check regularly. The provided email address will be used to notify volunteers of their chosen volunteer dates.
- A parent volunteer must respond to the reminder email, regarding whether they can fulfill their obligation on the selected date 48 hours before the day of school.
- If a parent volunteer is unable to volunteer on the sign up dates, they must complete their volunteering hours by committing to another school day.
- If a parent volunteer is unable to volunteer 8 times during 2009 - 2010 school year, they must reimburse the volunteer discount received at the time of their student registration or risk placing their child registration for 2010 - 2011 school year on waitlist.
- A parent volunteer will adhere to all guidelines placed by Al Furqan School during volunteering hours. A parent volunteer will follow all discipline guidelines and will only take suggested actions when faced with any student discipline issues.
Volunteer Sign in/Sign out Process
- A parent volunteer must arrive 10 minutes prior to the break time on the selected date.
- A parent volunteer must arrive at the old building PSG Help Desk to sign in and meet the PSG lead.
- A parent volunteer must wait for the designated area assignment.
- If a parent volunteer is helping out as a security monitor, they must wear an orange security vest.
- If a volunteer is asked to assist with outdoor bells, they must ring a warning bell outside 5 minutes prior to the break ending time.
- At the end of both recess and lunch breaks, all volunteers are asked to go around campus to make sure all students have returned to their classrooms.
- A parent volunteer must sign in for both recess and lunch breaks.
- A parent volunteer must return to the old building PSG Help Desk, return all items and sign out at the end of each break.
Areas for Volunteering
All parents are encouraged to participate and be involved in the school. Your child will be delighted in having you be a part of the school program. Your commitment to volunteering serves as a role-model to our children and their future obligation and commitment to furthering Islam. We are role models for our children. Please choose to volunteer in one of the following activities:
Security Monitor
Security monitors focus on monitoring students at the arrival and dismissal time. They ensure student security during drop off in the morning. They assist with the traffic flow inside the IAR compound.
Recess Monitor
Recess monitors focus on monitoring students during the recess break. They monitor mainly the play area at the front, middle and back. The monitors ensure that there is no unruly behavior that is either unsafe or unacceptable in school. They ensure that students return to classroom at the end of break.
Lunch Monitor
Lunch monitors focus on monitoring students during lunch time. They are present to prevent students from leaving the school premises during lunch time. They also oversee students playing football and in the play area. They must prevent any rough play. They must ensure that students dispose of garbage into the trash receptacle after lunch.
Lunch Servers
Lunch servers help with setting up tables in the gym area. They encourage students to form a single file line and wait for their turn to get lunch. They distribute pizza and water to the students waiting in line. They teach and encourage Islamic manners while eating.
PSG Help Desk
Help desk monitors focus on directing students to the classrooms. They track tardy students. They also function as sign-in and sign-out for all other volunteering activities.
School Events
Parents are asked to assist in various school functions. Each parent has an important role to play in the Al Furqan School programs. Your active involvement serves to build a sense of community among the families in the school.
Room Parents
Elementary grade parents are requested to sign up as room parents. The room parent usually help teachers with tasks like printing any documents that can be used during class. Room parent can also assist teachers during school events and celebration. They may coordinate collection of funds from parents for teacher’s appreciation gift at the end of the school year.
